Sofia Murhem is an associate professor at the Uppsala University. She has written on a number of topics on industrial relations, such as European integration and industrial relations, the European social sector dialogue,  local co-operation in European works councils, industrial relations in the service sector and European industrial relations in general. Her thesis (2003) dealt with changes in the Swedish industrial relations regime in the 1990s. She is currently conducting research on flexicurity in Sweden, on the effects on wages and industrial relations of privatizations of Swedish elder care and Swedish auctions and consumption in the 18th and 19th century. Sofia Murhem is also heading a project on Swedish pawn-broking between 1850-1950, financed by The Swedish Research Council and the Jan Wallander and Tom Hedelius Foundation. She is also heading a project on the European industrial relations regime from a gender perspective, financed by FAS. She is also working in a joint Nordic project on immigration of engineers from third countries, financed by the Nordic Council of Ministers, the Nordic Engineer trade unions and the employers’ federations.
