You have arrived at the home page belonging to me, Lars Oestreicher.
Welcome to this presentation of myself. From this information hub you can either go to my official pages, describing my work and official activities. Or, if you have some time you can visit my private pages, with those things you might want, or for some, most probably don't really want to know about me. The links are to the left.
I am a lecturer at the Department of Information Technology in the HCI-Group at Uppsala University. My main subject of teaching is Human-Computer Interaction. My current teaching assignments are in User Interface Programming I and II, Universal Design and Evaluation, and Advanced Interaction Design. I am also the director of studies at the HCI-group.
Teaching HCI is one of my research interests, and I have organized and participated in many workshops in this theme. In the beginning of this summer I was elected chair of the IFIP Working Group 13.1 for Education in Human-Computer Interaction and I hope that I will be able to contribute well to the workings of this group during the years to come.
When it comes to education, I am very interested in the problems connected to teaching per se. I have taught many courses over the years, and you can find a list of topics here. Since education is a major part of my life I have become especially interested in how to teach the area of HCI (Human-computer Interaction). More about that special interest can be found here. I am also associated with the Up Cerg? group at the IT-department of Uppsala University.

My special interest area of research has primarily been within the design of INTELLIGENT SERVICE ROBOTS with a special focus on using robots as a support for people with special needs. You can read more about this here. This research was undertaken in collaboration with The HCI Group at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. Within this project I also finalized my Ph.D. Thesis on conceptual modelling of tasks. I defended my Ph.D. Thesis at the Royal Insitute of Technology, September 28, 2009. It is available for download as a pdf here. The defence went well.
