You have arrived at the home page belonging to me, Lars Oestreicher.
Hot News: On September 28, 2009 I defended my Ph.D. Thesis at the Royal Insitute of Technology. It is available for download as a pdf here. The defence went well, and I am now looking forward to a research continuation in other and related areas. I will also start editing this page, so that the information can be kept more up to date. Check in now and then to see my current research status.
INTERACT 2009 is now over, and I perceived it as a great success. I can now put "Conference Chair of INTERACT 2009" in my CV. I am thoroughly proud over the conference as it turned out.
Welcome to this presentation of myself. From this information hub you can either go to my official pages, describing my work and official activities. Or, if you have some time you can visit my private pages, with those things you might want, or for some, most probably don't really want to know about me. The links are to the left.
The general policy for my home page(s) is to provide you information in small tidbits, so that you wont have to read too much at a time. I hope you like that policy. If you don't, there is not much I can do about it, more than shrug and smile. I also adher to the principle Simple is beautiful which means you will very seldom see things like THIS (try it at your own risk) on my WWW-pages. On the other hand, I like to play with graphics so on my private pages you may still see some experimental design.
I am a lecturer at the Department of Information and Media Science and the HCI-Group at the IT department Uppsala University. My main subject is Human-Computer Interaction.

My special interest area of research is INTELLIGENT SERVICE ROBOTS with a special focus on using robots as a support for people with special needs. You can read more about this here. This research is undertaken in collaboration with The HCI Group at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm.
When it comes to education, I am very interested in the problems connected to teaching per se. I have taught many courses over the years, and you can find a list of topics here. Since education is a major part of my life I have become especially interested in how to teach the area of HCI (Human-computer Interaction). More about that special interest can be found here.
Since September 2008 I am part time researcher for NITA, the Swedish IT-User Centre, in the VINNOVA-sponsored project Airport Living Lab, which aims at developing an open innovation framework as part of a Living Lab at the Arlanda Airport in Stockholm.
